International Women’s Day: Meet Angilla
At Hudson Homes, we strive to have a diverse team, full of individuals with lot’s to offer. To celebrate the achievements of women around the world, we wanted to feature Angilla our senior draftsperson and team leader.
When you first joined the workforce, did you imagine yourself one day in a leadership role?
No, it was a male dominated industry and I was quite young so was happy just being apart of the team. It has been a great opportunity to grow within a business and a team here at Hudson.
Throughout your life have you faced any barriers in becoming successful in your field? How did you overcome them?
A common barrier that I and many other women experience is having children. To try and overcome this challenge I started my own drafting business whilst working from home which kept my skills up to date and helped my transition back into the workforce when I was ready.
What advice would you give to a young woman who is starting out in the construction/property field?
My advice would be to always pay attention to the details, our jobs are to help create dream homes for people, so every single line on the drafting plan must have a purpose. It’s important to treat every customer with the care you would want when building a home.
What life advice would you give to a young woman?
Surround yourself with strong GENUINE role models, people who are working hard to achieve their goals and will inspire you to push yourself – rather than superficial celebrities
What does ‘Women lifting each other up’ mean to you?
To lift each other up means to actively help each other out, and educate each other. Women should work as a team rather than against each other!
Hudson Homes would like to thank Angilla and all the other females on our team for all of their ongoing hard work, it is great to have you all a part of the team!
