Making a Family Friendly Home
Starting a new family is a big step. Growing your family along with your home is easy with these tips to make your home family friendly!
Durable surfaces and furniture
To keep your home from getting messy, here are some ways to keep your home kid-proof without sacrificing your style or fun!
Floors can be tricky to keep tidy and clutter-free. Consider wood or tiling for flooring, or if you are looking into carpets, choose something sturdy and stain resistant so that any blips can be easily wiped, vacuumed or picked up. Looking into rugs but worried about keeping them clean? A great tip is to pick an outdoor rug, which normally comes in bright colours and is made to put up with wear and tear.
Worried about your walls? No problem! Look into washable paints that come in variety of different colours and finishes. Have a chat to our Spectrum Colour Studio Designer should be able to help you pick out the perfect paint.
For kitchens and eating areas, wipeable surfaces and easy-to-clean (and tough!) dinnerware will be your friends.
Remember, tough doesn’t have to mean boring or rigid. Pops of colour will make the space a fun place for your little ones, and consider soft yet durable textiles for your décor and furniture.
Our Ivory bedroom keeps it simple and stylish with a sturdy carpet.
Storage
Keep any storage off the ground and away from little curious grabbing hands. Vertical shelving is a great space saver and will ensure any toys and treasures will stay out of reach. Other storage solutions like hooks, storage trunks and high shelves will ensure that nothing can be pulled down so nobody gets hurt.
Due to most of this storage being anchored to the walls or tucked out of sight, this frees up the space and makes the room much more open – what a bonus!
Our Ebony study’s vertical shelving is a smart way to keep everything out of reach from little hands.
Open spaces
Open plan spaces create a lively functional hub for the family as well as to keep an eye on any mischief!
Larger spaces mean more room to roam for bigger families and kids (that never seem to lack in energy!) as well as tons of space for storage. This kind of design also keeps the house from being too formal and claustrophobic, making the house a home.
Open plan design like our Saffron living area ensures you can keep an eye on your little ones and gives them room to roam.
